1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to the NaviTraveler website and to any forms, emails or communications connected to it. It covers visitors who browse our walking routes, people who sign up to our newsletter, and visitors who contact us. It does not cover third-party websites that we link to, even where those links appear inside one of our walks.
2. Who we are
NaviTraveler is operated by NaviTraveler LLC, registered at 300 E Central Ave, Mackinaw City, MI 49701, United States. You can reach us by phone at +1 906-298-7381 or by email at legal@navitraveler.com. We are the controller responsible for the personal data described in this policy.
3. What data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data, depending on how you use the site:
- Contact details you give us, such as your name and email address, when you write to us or ask a question.
- Newsletter sign-up information, limited to your email address and, if you provide it, your first name.
- Basic analytics data, such as which pages are viewed, how long a session lasts, approximate location derived from IP address, device type and browser.
- Server logs, including IP address, timestamps and error information, generated automatically when you visit the site.
4. Legal bases for processing
Where the law requires a legal basis, we rely on one or more of the following: your consent (for example, when you subscribe to the newsletter), the performance of a request you have made (for example, answering your enquiry), our legitimate interest in running and improving the website, and compliance with legal obligations where they apply to us.
5. How we use your data
- To answer questions and provide support when you contact us.
- To send newsletter emails to subscribers who opted in, and to let you unsubscribe at any time.
- To understand how visitors use the website, so we can improve routes, pages and navigation.
- To maintain the security and stability of the website and to diagnose technical problems.
- To meet legal or accounting obligations where applicable.
6. Cookies
We use cookies and similar technologies for basic site functionality and analytics. Full details, including how to manage your preferences, are set out in our Cookie Policy.
7. Third-party services
We use a limited number of third-party providers to run the website. These may include a hosting provider to serve the site, an analytics provider to measure basic usage, an email delivery service to send newsletters and respond to enquiries, and embedded map services used to illustrate route locations. These providers process data to deliver their services to us.
Flight search is provided by Travelpayouts, an independent travel search partner. Search details and technical data are processed by the partner under its own privacy policy, and the partner may set its own cookies. NaviTraveler does not sell tickets. Prices are confirmed, and bookings and payments take place on the airline or travel agency website under that provider's terms. We may receive a commission at no extra cost to you.
8. Data sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with the service providers that run the website on our instructions, and where required by law, for example in response to a valid legal request from a public authority. The independent flight search partner processes data through its tool under its own privacy policy.
9. International transfers
NaviTraveler is based in the United States, and some of our service providers may process data outside your home country. Where this happens, we take reasonable steps to ensure the provider offers an appropriate level of protection for your data, consistent with applicable law.
10. Data retention
We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected for. Contact enquiries are generally kept while they are being handled and for a reasonable period afterward for support purposes. Newsletter email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe. Server logs are retained for a limited operational period and then deleted or anonymised.
11. Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
12. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
- Request deletion of your data, subject to legal exceptions.
- Object to certain processing, including for direct marketing.
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing carried out before withdrawal.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in section 2 or at the foot of this page.
13. US state privacy rights
If you are a resident of a US state with its own privacy law, you may have additional rights regarding the personal data we hold about you, similar to those described in section 12, such as the right to know what data we hold, to request deletion, and to opt out of certain types of processing. We will respond to verified requests in line with the law that applies to you.
14. Children's privacy
NaviTraveler is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
15. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a Do Not Track setting. Because there is no common industry standard for responding to it, our website does not currently change its behaviour when it detects such a signal.
16. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. We will post the revised version on this page with an updated date. Please check back periodically.
